Discovered amongst Bristol’s forgotten memorabilia, the Natural Theatre Company has ‘unearthed’ an early work of Shakespeare, written when Will was a young whippersnapper. This unpublished play features early sketches of his most iconic characters, first drafts of famous scenes…and just a little bit of nonsense.

LGBTQ+ Faces of Bristol at the Tobacco Factory Now – 7 August

LGBTQ+ Faces of Bristol was founded in July 2020 by local Bristol photographer Karen Freer. The project aims to empower the LGBTQ+ community in Bristol, by ensuring that everyone has positive representation. The project showcases the many people in Bristol via photographic portraits.

King Lear: The musical 19 – 22 August

Venice in Blue 2 & 3 September

At the turn of the sixteenth century, blue paper emerged as a chosen support for drawing and printing in Venice. Artists including Vittore Carpaccio (ca. 1460–ca. 1526), Lorenzo Lotto (ca. 1480–1556), Titian (ca. 1488–1576), Sebastiano del Piombo (ca. 1485–1547), and Jacopo Tintoretto (1518/19–1594) utilised this support for drawings to explore the tonal effects of light and shade on colour. This conference explores the use of blue paper (carta azzurracarta turchinacarta cerulea) for the purposes of drawing and printing in Venice in the first half of the sixteenth century.

BS9 Arts Trail 4 & 5 September

From 11am to 5pm on both days, four group venues and five private homes will be open and ready to welcome you to browse the huge range of art work on offer. It’s all made by the 65 artists taking part in the Trail, and includes painting, print, textiles, jewellery, wood, ceramics, photography, and much more. Many exhibitors sell cards too. Artists love to discuss their work, so feel free to ask them about how they did it. There is no pressure to buy, but prices are always lower when you purchase directly from the artist because there is no gallery commission.
